DANCE thoughts #3: Advertisements


Creating Advertisements

Warm Up:
Follow the leader using different types of movements: rhythmic, flowing, on the side, different levels, etc.

This week in dance, we were given the task of creating a dance advertisement based on a given stimulus. These included:

Northern territory 


Washing Power


Airline


We needed to include fluid movements, levels, a key pose and a catch phrase. We were divided into groups of 5 and each group was given a different brief. My group was given the Airline brief. We brainstormed and came up with the idea of a domestic Australian airline that flew to 16 new locations in NSW, including Rooty Hill, Penrith, and other outer western regions. It was called "Emu Plains", ironically as Emus are flightless. We used the movement of the emu to inform our dance and had a narrator on the side. One thing that would have improved our group's a lot, however, was to have included music so that we had a beat. When I use this activity at school, I will ensure that every group includes a piece of music.

As Iris said, this would be a really good activity to come back to and revisit, spend more time on workshopping the original ideas, and then you could introduce video recording of the advertisements and watch these in class, with the rest of the class giving feedback and appre
